Recently our family traveled to Seattle Washington for my company’s association conference. While there we visited the famous Pikes Place Market and as we attempted to cross the street the traffic did not stop for us and seemed to stop for everyone else. We waited like good little tourist for the traffic to lighten so that we could cross but it never seemed to lighten up. We finally crossed when we saw the traffic lighten up. As we crossed an amused I am assuming Seattle resident said to us “the trick is to just keep walking”. I immediately thought about personal growth, what is true about crossing the street at Pikes Place is true about life you know your spiritual life, relationships, work, and of course leadership, the trick is to keep walking. We should grow in every area of our lives deliberately, no one will automatically help you grow, and you will not grow just because you exist. You must put forth an effort to grow and if we are putting forth any forward effort than we are growing. If we are not putting forth any forward effort we are either standing still or moving backwards.

Want to move to the next level, the trick, is to keep walking.

Thanks for the advice from the stranger in Seattle.

In the last few weeks I have attended two webinars put on by Intuit Community and presented by Ramon Ray of Smallbiztechnology.com.  Both events were very helpful events and I am glad that I attended.  In most cases “free” gets a negative conotation behind it and we say you get what you pay for but in the case of Intuit Events I can say that the value was far and above what I expected

The next free event will be on May 5, 2010 at 12:00pm PDT. The subject will be “Get Organized & Rewarded” .  Those of you who have read this blog for any length of time know that we love organization, so we will be there. Give us a shout if you plan on attending.

I just started reading David Allen of “Getting things done” fame’s new book ” Making it all work”. He has three categories of people who have read GTD that can be helped even more by reading this new book:

1. Those who think they got it but didn’t realy get it.

2. Those who get some of it and realize they didn’t really apply it like they should.

3. Those who really got it, and really implemented it to an “advanced” level.

I fall into categorie number 2 and have become somewhat of an advocate for the methods that Allen uses.  I have become an advocate because when I have implemented these strategies in my life there have been benefits.  I have given the original GTD book to several of my co-workers for the “next actions” alone.  Mettings are more productive and don’t last as long when people know you will be asking whats next and who is doing it questions about every agenda item.

I will keep you posted on my progress with the GTD method as I apply Making it all work”. When I reach level 3, there will be a celebration, and yes David Allen if you are reading this, that is on my “someday maybe” list.
